Empower Patients Through
Leadership in Primary Care
Through its Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program, Seattle University accepts nurse practitioner candidates from a variety of backgrounds:
-
Current registered nurses with BSN or master's degrees, who enter the 3-year DNP program directly
-
Non-nurses with a bachelor’s degree in another field (related to health or not), who complete an accelerated RN pre-licensure program before starting the 3-year DNP program
Alternate Entry. Our Advanced Practice Nursing Immersion (APNI) program opens doors for non-nurses. Not all FNP degree programs allow for “alternate entry.”
Comprehensive Primary Care. You’ll study advanced practice nursing mindsets and methodology by focusing on the whole person, not simply the disease process.
Clinical Focus. Through clinically focused courses, with high academic standards, you’ll build key clinical competencies.
Health Care Leadership. Our faculty members will help you hone the leadership skills required to become a respected and independent family nurse practitioner with full scope of practice for practice in outpatient settings.
Whether you’re already working in the nursing profession or want to, let’s connect. Complete this form to learn more.
Comprehensive family practice is the foundation of better patient outcomes. Yet, many communities face a shortage of primary care providers. You can empower patients through reliable, compassionate and equitable access to health care.
The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs at Seattle University College of Nursing are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

EMPOWER THROUGH LEADERSHIP
Primary care providers bring much-needed leadership and access to many communities. Accessible primary care is a social justice issue. When disparities get addressed, fewer people end up in the ER desperate for help with conditions left untreated for too long. As a Family Nurse Practitioner with a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, you can empower patients.
PROVIDE COMPREHENSIVE CARE
To meet the need for more family practice providers, many states allow nurse practitioners to have full scope of practice. This means nurse practitioners can evaluate, diagnose and treat patients, including ordering diagnostic tests and evaluating results as well as having the authority to prescribe medications.
ACHIEVE MORE FOR YOURSELF AND YOUR PATIENTS
The Doctor of Nursing Practice degree is the highest clinical, patient-focused nursing degree you can get. At this unique time in health care history, you can expand your nursing career or start a whole new career with more clout from earning your DNP degree in 3-4 years. Request details now!
